Bits and Bobs

My writing and resting sabbatical is about to move into the final quarter, and it’s been quite the ride so far. I’ve written a few short stories (most are in the process of submission, which really just means throwing them at various markets until the magic moment when the topic fits what the editors are looking for), finished a cancer book (which is in revisions), nearly finished a novel (in the final chapters and then revisions: fun!) and wrote a few essays.

One was published yesterday over on Substack with Midstory Magazine. You can read the essay here. It’s a pretty big deal for me, since the last time I published was with Renaissance Magazine, which is sadly now out of business, five or six years ago. It feels good to have that external validation again.

Incidentally, I also recently started a substack and am intending to produce an emailed newsletter, likely monthly, starting in 2024. I’m debating the idea of doing some sort of subscription thing for short stories and work not published elsewhere. Anyway, if you’re interested in yet another way I can insert my weirdness in your life, please go follow my substack and subscribe.

In other news, because he’s ridiculously cute and doesn’t always make the blog or Instagram, Ragnar was extremely pleased that his girl came home yesterday after a few days at her mom’s house. Ragnar is about 90 pounds (what is that, 6 and a half stone or so?), so when he sits on your feet and leans, he leans with GUSTO. I’m glad she didn’t tip over.
