Intermission: It’s Been a Weird Week

SK and I had a short week after the annual Sibling Derby Weekend. 2026 was at Black Bear Resort and Casino, a new venue for all of us because the sibs had tickets to a concert after the race: food was really good, rooms have all been redone and were lovely, bed was way too hard, no other amenities at the “resort” other than the casino. So, fun but only for a night or two. As per usual, my pick for the Kentucky Derby did not win (I like to bet on the long shot, always), although I did win the quiz we played so yay to that.

It’s also the twins’ bday this week, plus Mother’s Day which is always slightly weird for me and brings up some after-cancer stuff, and we’re starting UAT (user acceptance testing, for you non-IT folk out there) at my day job next week so extra hours and brain work have been in order for the past few weeks anyway. I’m tired. It’s been weird. Highlights (perhaps the last one is a low-light?) of my week are as follows:

  1. A feline NOT fAngus spied on my through my office window on Tuesday morning. All the animals were inside, and I think it was interested in fAngus, but it was gone when I tried (unsuccessfully) to sneak out of the garage to say hi.
Hello? Have you heard about our Lady and Savior Bast?
I can totally you in your office window, there. And I can tell another cat lives here. Do you want another cat? Do you have treats? I’m thinking about jumping this fence, but are those loud ones around?

2. The dogs had a fabulous time with Grandpa while we were gone over the weekend, but they were also thrilled to have us home.

Minerva became a barnacle. This lounge chair is not big enough for both of us. Minerva ignores the rules of space and time.

3. I have no good excuse or explanation.

This morning’s hair mimics those chickens with the poofs of feathers that look like punk hair on their noggins. Because that’s how Friday is rolling this week.

I have a book proposal to finish, and some planting to start.
